Legal Aid of West Virginia

I have custody of my two granddaughters and I presented my situation to this office, they gave me high hopes by telling me that I have good standings to adopt my grandbabies. However, it's been over six months and nothing has been done or filled on my behalf. When I call, and I've been burning their phone up, I can never reach anyone; I can only leave a message on the answering machine and they do not return my calls. I've spent all my savings with Court cost and lawyers to make sure my grandbabies are safe and taken care of. Understandable, they may be backed up; but at least return my calls or at least file something with the courts.

I thank goodness there is a place for women who have no way out to go to for help. I've had the best experience there. A lawyer I can email at anytime an she gets back to me on a timely manner. They also help with housing I've been told. They connect you with another group that handles that issue. My experience with legal aid has been great.

I had went to legal aid to get help with a felony marijuana distribution charge that I had gotten years ago and making it nearly impossible to find employment. I had went to other attorneys in the area to try to get help previously only to find it was unaffordable or was told I wasn't eligible for an expungement. Luckily I didn't take no for an answer when I checked with another attorney in the area Mills and Mcdermott whom informed me I was not eligible for an expungement. I had applied for help with the matter through legal aid office of Martinsburg who had connected me with Attorney Matt Jividen. Mr.Jividen was always very nice and seemed to really care about helping me from the first time I had got to meet him during my consultation. Mr.Jividen was not judgemental towards my past when speaking with him I could be open and honest with him without fear of being judged by my past as so many others had done me. Mr.Jividen didn't give up on trying to help me, he didn't stop until he had gotten my expungement done for me and I can't thank him enough! I just wanted to leave this review so others in a similar situation may be able to find the help they need through Mr.Jividen. He's given me a second chance at life and hopefully others can find him to get help also! Also wanted to add that the receptionist at the front window Jenny was always very nice and helpful. So don't think just because you're getting free help or help at a reduced rate that you're receiving service that isn't as good as the more expensive attorneys in our area because they provided me an excellent service that others didn't come close to! intially shut away at the door due to un knowledgeable staff. i reside in maryland and my issue was in west virginia and the lady said to go to maryland legal aid. i was able to successfully apply online and seek help from a matt hayes who talked to me for 30 minutes and provided exceptional insight and that the "aid" they would be able to provide would not be enough for my situation and local attitudes and politics may be an issue as small towns are different and some will bend over backwards for you and some will not

I didn't even want to give 1 star. The office is worthless, me and my wife got approved but we had to keep calling because the lawyer never called,then talked to us as if he really didn't want to help us, told us he would call back with other lawyers phone numbers we could call, he never called back and lied to his supervisor saying he did call and gave us numbers. I dont understand we thought this service was to help people in need when they cant afford a lawyer but I guess we were wrong. I wish we could sue them because all the time we wanted waiting on them and lost time from work trying to find them etc. Now my court date is in one day and we dont have a lawyer, thanks to legal No-Aid
