Yakima County Superior Court

From my experience, the Yakima court system consistently protects abusers instead of survivors. Survivors of abuse are dismissed and retraumatized while those who harm others are shown leniency. Victims of domestic and child abuse are not believed or safeguarded, and it feels like the guilty are shown mercy while the innocent are punished. Victims deserve compassion, fairness, and safety; not more fear and trauma.

I had the honor and privilege to sit on a jury trial and I was pleasantly surprised by how the entire process was conducted from jury selection to the last moment before leaving the courthouse. The bailiffs, Kit and Dennis, were respectful and professional making sure we were all comfortable and had all of the information we could at the time. Judge Kevin Naught was so kind to everyone in the courtroom...especially all of the witnesses. He even spent a few minutes after the verdict to speak with any jurors who wished to stay and ask questions. If anyone has any apprehensions about responding to a jury summons or serving on a jury trial, I would highly encourage them to give the experience a try. We are so fortunate to have a justice system such as ours. It isn't perfect by any means but it is quite an honor to see it in action when it does work! 10/10....I highly recommend and would definitely do it again!
