Some months after an auto accident, I was referred to Will Sutton by a retired attorney that I trust very much. In the beginning I didn't think I'd need a lawyer, although I called Will and---typically for Will---he got back immediately. We had a conversation in which he was generous with some practical advice about dealing with auto insurance companies and my rights in the process.
But I had not yet engaged Will, as I thought that I could pretty well handle everything on my own. About four months later, when I saw that I'd need more support for some of my injuries, I called Will back to engage him. I'm glad I did.
For one, Will Sutton returns phone calls and texts right away, and I'd have to give him extra credit for the long emails chock full of helpful information, nothing boiler-plate, everything tailored to my specific circumstances, never keeping me in the dark. He is characteristically pragmatic, kind, warm, strategic, and straight-forward. I actually found the whole process to be interesting. I never once---not ever---felt that Will was moving things in a direction that was not coming out of early conversations that he and I had about what I wanted, how much trouble I wanted to make (not much, as I didn't need to make anyone suffer just because I suffered), and that my own values were honored in the long and winding process.
And you'd have to appreciate where the Sutton Law Firm is set up and how un-corporate it is: the offices are shared with an acupuncture practice (his wife's), and I never saw a suit or a tie. I once long ago had to give a deposition in Center City Philadelphia, in a office high up overlooking the downtown, at a long walnut table peopled by lawyers and their assistants all trading snarky in-jokes, as if you, the lowly witness were just a bit player in their high-powered and consequential lives. The Sutton Law Firm is not like that. Not at all.
In the end, justice was served, I am able to manage some complicated health issues with the auto insurance settlement, and I had an experience that ended up warming my heart; I learned that lawyers can be kind, can be effective, and can guide you through some difficult times.
