Client
Beware utilizing Merrill O'Sullivan LLP for Estates and Trusts, they have no commitment to their clients after taking your money. In September 2016, my mother utilized Merrill O'Sullivan to establish and set up a Trust, an Advance Directive, Power of Attorney, and Last Will and Testament. She spent thousands of dollars with the firm in consultation and fees for the filings and paperwork. Unfortunately my mother passed away in October 2023. As the Trustee of the Trust, I contacted Merrill O'Sullivan for consultation of the Trust and Will. After a week of the initial contact, they called me back. Instead of setting up a paid meeting, they told me they did not have anyone at the firm that could work with me, and provided the Oregon Bar Association phone number so I could find another law firm to work with. I was shocked and hurt by this decision. My mother had just passed away a week earlier, and I thought I could receive proper guidance of next steps by the firm my mother had trusted. I expressed my disappointment but it did not matter. I'm not sure how this is considered ethical or thoughtful. Frankly I was embarrassed for the person that called me back. It was clear this was not the right decision. I would not consider these actions professional, ethical, or considerate. Their actions indicate they have no followup commitment, once they receive their primary fees. Again, be aware prior to utilizing Merrill O'Sullivan for any Estate or Trust work.
