Client
I hired this firm in September, 2023, to handle an undue hardship child support case after my previous lawyer stopped practicing during COVID. I was referred to Alison Boyce, who initially gave me hope and encouragement. I took out a significant loan to pay her retainer and paid over $4,300, believing she would genuinely help me move my case forward. Two years later, the only progress made was determining that my ex had retained counsel -- something she could have easily confirmed by asking me. There was no meaningful work done, no financial disclosure obtained, no filings, and no effort to pursue the arrears that are clearly owed. My emails were often read but not answered, and I was charged for time spent "reviewing" them. There's nothing to justify the $4,300+ I paid. It feels like I was strung along and taken advantage of. When I filed a complaint with the Law Society of Ontario in July 2025, Alison decided that was the moment she was "no longer representing me" -- but she didn't even communicate that until September 18, after three attempts (after the complaint) from me to contact her. That same day, I forwarded everything to the firm's managing partners, Andre Martin and Kate Wright, and even now -- a month and a half later -- I have yet to receive a single response from either of them. In my emails to Andre and Kate, I formally requested: - A full copy of my client file - A final account detailing how my $4,300 retainer was used - An explanation for why my matter was handled this way despite repeated, urgent requests for communication - The firm's position on whether this level of service reflects its professional standards I also made it clear that my complaint to the Law Society was not an attempt to end the solicitor-client relationship, but to raise serious concerns about Alison's lack of communication and progress. Her later claim that I "terminated" her services does not reflect the reality of my experience. I'm a struggling, single parent who came to this firm for help with a legitimate undue hardship child support claim. I wasn't asking for special treatment, just basic communication, integrity, and effort. Instead, I'm left with debt, no progress, and no acknowledgment from anyone at the firm. I'm writing this because silence and avoidance shouldn't be the standard in a profession that's supposed to protect clients -- especially those already in a difficult situation.
