I hired Susan because she was highly recommended from the shelter my two children and I were placed in due to an abusive matter. And It took over 3 years for my marriage to finally be over and child custody set - where I actually had to hire another lawyer to finalize the actual divorce because Susan just wouldn't do the paperwork. She completely took advantage of my situation and patience and just didn't care. She should not have the ability to practice law - she is a charlatan - and I'm out $5000.

My husband hired her. I talked with her one time. She said she was gonna send me a zoom link to handle the matter with him. I have called multiple times. I have sent numerous emails, and I went by her office during business hours but still nothing. Who doesn't have someone to answer the phone or return phone calls??!!!!

Updated.... I am updating this review because of the way our case has been handled this last time. She did have an assistant to quit and apparently she has been short staffed, but we have had our case drag on for way longer than it needed to be. Phone calls are not returned neither are emails. We have better communication with the Clerk's office to let us know the status of our case. I will not use her for anything else again. I've used her going on three times now. First for my Seperation, then my Divorce. Now my husband and I are going for a TPR and my husband to adopt my two kids.

I would honestly give negative stars if that were an option. I went to see Mrs. Brotherton on July 22, 2019 for a simple non contested divorce. It is now February 26,2020 and I have yet to receive my divorce. The office staff is extremely rude every time I call to ask about my paperwork and I have had to go to the office numerous times to get answers. When I first started asking questions I was informed numerous times that the paperwork had been mailed to my husband. However it wasn't until I showed up in person and questioned them for a third time about the matter that Mrs. Brotherton looked into the problem. Four days later my husband was served and the post mark on the envelope was a date after I went to the office. This was the office staff's first set of lies to me. After the papers were served I still did not have a court date bc they had "forgotten" to put it on the calendar for SEVERAL months. Once again I went to the office numerous times to question what was happening in my case. The office staff finally emailed the courthouse and found out that my case had not been heard and they didn't know why. The office staff did not contact me and let me know this. I had to show up at the office yet again to be told this. The next time my case was supposed to be heard, it wasn't bc "the docket was full". Once again I only found this out bc I went to the office. I was told that it would be resubmitted for the first week in February. I called the office multiple times and only got the run around from the staff. When they finally chose to answer my call, I know that they purposely didn't answer my calls when they saw the caller ID bc I would call right back with my number blocked and they immediately picked up, they told me once again that they did not know why my case wasn't heard. It has been SEVEN months to do something that I could have done myself in thirty days and it is still NOT done!!!!! Do yourself a favor and stay away from this law firm!! They are unprofessional, rude, and will only give you the run around instead of facts. The only thing they will do without issue is take your money "for their services".

They never answer the phone. They never give a call back. This is the worst attorney at office that I know of in Statesville. They'll have you locked up due to missing court.
