Client Testimonials

Client

Jim is the most unprofessional attorney I have come across in the last 25 years of working with scores of them. My son paid him 1250 dollars last year to fight a traffic case and Jim asked the judge for continuation without my son's consent. After that he would not schedule the case. He kept postponing it. On one of the court dates he was supposed to represent my son but failed to appear and failed to inform my son who lives in a different county. My son got arrested and my wife had to rush from Fayetteville to Raleigh to plead with the magistrate. The whole thing cost us a bail money of 2000/-. After that Jim never returned phone calls and emails from my son, my wife, my son's civil attorney and myself. My son had to hire another attorney after one year of drama and dragging by this unscrupulous attorney. That cost him another 750/ dollars. So here is a young man left with a wrongful arrest and 4000/- dollars down due to shear negligence of Jim Van Kamp. You can decide yourself if you want to hire him. Although I am not in a position to make a diagnosis, other reviews also suggest he has hard time remembering and executing his task as an attorney. May be time for him to get some medical/psychological advice. If this is his attitude, god save his clients.

We hired Jim Van Kemp and regret it. He continued a case against our will and then did not show up on that date. He and his office never returned our phone calls after repeated promises of a call back!! Extremely unprofessional and unethical. We ended up hiring another attorney and need our retainer back!!

I used Mr. Van Camp and his team to file for divorce. He was very personable on my first visit. Valerie is a star in this practice. She was always quick to respond to my questions and issues through this year long process. They kept me informed of things through the whole process. If you are in need of a divorce lawyer, don't go anywhere else. I recommend them without reservation.

Client

Several weeks ago I called to make an appointment for my mom. She is 82, and her husband abandoned her. We were to meet with him this past week on February 21st. I drove 660 miles to be here for the appointment. We were walking out the door on Tuesday morning, and his paralegal called to say that he was in court and he would not be able to keep his appointment. I want to add that we had a very important court appearance scheduled for February the 27th, which the paralegal told me that he would do a continuance. Anyway, she rescheduled our appointment for Thursday the 23rd. We arrived at their Rockingham office only to be told that Mr. Van Camp would not be there. His paralegal sat with us to do the consult. She told us that she could not give us a retainer amount, but would have to speak with Mr. Van Camp. I asked her if this was going to negate our being able to get the continuance and she told me it would not. We spoke yesterday on the phone a little past 11:00. Still no communication with the attorney. Finally a little after 2:00 I sent her a txt reminding her of the "time crunch". She called me and said, "Oh, I'm sorry! I should have already called you! Your retainer amount will be $7500.00." To be honest, I could not believe this. We are not contesting the divorce. We are in agreement with leaving the house. We needed representation on Monday, and we had a couple of small issues that we needed to be addressed, and now we were completely screwed. The paralegal told us that it could be $5000.00 or it could go as high as $7500. It could also be less than $5,000.00. They tried to stick us with the worst possible scenario! Our representation did not warrant that type of fee. I just want to say two things: 1. It does not look good at all for an attorney not to show up... twice. 2. I would not recommend this office/attorney ever! Through an act of God - and I truly believe it is a miracle! - we are driving over to meet with an attorney on Saturday morning. My father was a minister and my mom was part of that ministry. They were married for almost 56 years and she remarried the man who is causing all of this grief. Look elsewhere for an attorney that keeps his word, arrives at an appointment and doesn't try to bankrupt you when you are 82 years old and living on Social Security.

Client

Do not dependent on them. Had a court date they didn't show up on my behalf. Found out there was a warrant for an arrest and Linda said she would take care of it. Later was arrested and they said it was my fault.
