Matt grew up in Tucson, Arizona spending his summers in northern New Mexico. He graduated from Amphitheater High school and joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17. While serving in the Infantry, he traveled the world spending two years stationed in Germany with the 8th Infantry Division. As a Mortar section Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division, he served in the first Gulf War. Matt was one of the youngest Jumpmasters in the history of the 82nd, qualifying as a Jumpmaster before being old enough to buy a beer at the NCO club. His military awards include the Combat Infantryman's Badge, two Army Commendation Medals and the Parachutist Badge. After the Army, Matt began attending Pima Community College in Tucson on the G.I.
