Took me months to write this review because honestly it's exhausting recapping the nightmare we went through with this attorney. We hired her for my partners criminal case in which someone lied against him saying they was hit in the head with a gun. Police had no evidence or anything but my partner was being held in detention mainly because of the bad experiences he's had with his attorneys (he had a different attorney prior). When we first met with her she seemed passionate about the case and told us about all the things she would do to try to get him out. The previous lawyer told us they were going to put in a motion to reopen his detention hearing but hadn't so she told us she would gather the evidence and put in the motion. She was hired in October 2024. The DA dragged their feet with sending evidence and when they finally did it was confirmed that they had nothing besides my partners statement and the plaintiff's statement. This is where things with Mrs. Terry went downhill. She was unresponsive to calls. Every time we'd call she'd say she's busy and would call back but never called back and then when you keep calling to get in touch she claims she's being "harassed". She would push court dates back and not fight for a speedy court date. Court dates were being postponed for one month at a time, with no fight on her end, mind you this man is sitting in detention for something he didn't do. She recommended him taking a plea deal. As a black attorney, you would think she got into this work to help fight the system as many of our people serve time for things they didn't do just to get the process over with. But her answer was to take a plea deal. I already lost faith in her ability to handle the case once she suggested the deal but my partner decided to remain with her. She was hired from October 2024-June 2025 and only went to visit him once in the detention center, yet she was making decisions on his behalf with the DA despite me expressing otherwise, based on what my partner expressed to me over the phone . He would try to reach out to her via phone from the detention center but same issue, her secretary says she's busy or no answer. We told her many times to just push for trial to help speed the process up but she continued to adjourn court dates. When asked about the adjournments she would get dismissive and again, claim to being harassed. She even made an huge scene in the court hallway, for simply being asked a question. Around March or April she even walked up to me in court and asked me I she should just push for trial and still went in front of the judge and asked for more time. She told the judge my partner changed his mind about the plead deal when she never actually had a conversation about it with him. In June 2025, we hired another attorney who was of course more expensive but got him out right away. He went to court the Friday but the DA was out so it got adjourned, I saw this lawyer fight for a quick adjournment date and got a date for that Monday in which the case was dismissed. All the attorney had to do was push for trial and the DA dropped the case. Something that we asked Mrs. Terry to do months prior. We actually consulted with this new attorney back in March and he advised us to stay with her because he was able to look into the case and saw that there was no case. If you have a criminal case please go with another attorney. It seems as if Mrs. Terry was in over her head but was too prideful to admit. She is very rude, condescending and dismissive in her communication. If I could give her negative stars I would. P.S. I won't be surprised if she comments back to this review & I hope she does so she can give yall a taste of her "professionalism"!
