Knowledgeable and helpful. Their house selling information was easy to understand. Their flat fee covered everything. All financials to y be calculated and at closing. Very happy.

Client

I called based on a reference from a trusted person. I asked fir a 5 minute phone call to answer if any action could be taken when the judge dies nit follow the law, chpt 633 in this case. Judge allowed executrix to not give a full accounting even in 12 years since our mother's death. This lawyer took my address, and didn't even mention Motion for Reconsideration or any actions. I didn't ask for anything else. When I emailed why did you need my address and don't give it or any personal info out, he would not confirm, very upsetting, when he knew I was already stressed and hurt. Then he said he would review and maybe give a different address when I didn't even ask him to do anything at all! I should not have given it to him. Instead of answering my 5 minute question, of his own volition, went on to get case docs which the other remiss executrix lawyer didn't give us. Fine but if charging by time, say so. After, he wanted to charge me $300. I had no idea that would be asked.... Do not recommend.

My divorce attorney Katherine Flickinger left the firm with a 3 day notice. She was supposed to transfer my files to new attorney and didn't. Now I have no idea where my files are! Tim Gartin won't return my calls. Avoid this law firm! I wonder if I have a law suit to return my files since the firm didn't keep a copy of them. Illegal or inappropriate or both

Client

I met with Katherine in this office twice. In summary. As a minority in the community I feel an obligation to expresss my experience! First meeting, she had a backward mentality, I felt like she was one of the good ol boys of Story County. She lacked passion as a defense attorney and had an outdated approach toward my case, it was a fraud issue I had at my bank. It was a consult and I felt more of an insult. Suffering that unexpected fraud caused me to have her retained as my public defender on a criminal case in story county. By that time losing $7,000 from my business account I was in a mentally stressed and financially stressed situation. I came to meet her again to my surprise. I had to bring my two little kids, my older were in school and I had serious daycare issues as it was extremely hard to secure child care in Ames. But, we needed to meet initially. It was HORRIBLE! She came in and introduced the fact my kids were not welcome, she made me super uncomfortable, I asked around and several attorneys said my children are more than welcome to accompany me during our meetings. In the same, meeting she accused me and then warned me to not have them in the courtroom. She continued on with her cynical accusations and even ignored FACTS of my defense. She was rigid, she lacks ambition. She seemed entitled. She lacks a diverse defense tactic or strategy. Of course, public defenders work for the state but some work for their clients. In court, she was weak and even mentioned to our jury a COVID FRAUD ARTICLE-she read, it was a Covid fraud case and she asked one juror to read it, it was a good article... she laughed during her closing argument, she was boring. She never objected to anything. It was like she wanted more to be liked by her peers than to defend me. She misled me and misinformed me on what she could do. She seems like a great prosecutor. She should never represent anyone of color. She is very much in a very privileged mindset. I wouldn't recommend her to defend your dog or cat. And, I truly appreciate all the community and state does to help people who lack the funds to provide themselves with people and proper legal aid, but throw her away and defend yourself. She was literally doing my case on a fly. She may like you and your childless situation more so please by all means try it, but it is a risk. God bless and good luck out there
