I selected this firm based on strong reviews and a trusted personal referral. Unfortunately, my experience did not reflect the level of professionalism or care I expected.
While the assigned paralegal, Shameka Hollingsworth, maintained consistent communication regarding required steps and scheduling, my interactions with the assigned attorney, Katherine Aranda, were significantly lacking. Reaching Ms. Aranda directly was extremely difficult. On multiple occasions, I had to send repeated emails and call the office simply to obtain basic updates and guidance about my case--guidance that I later learned I never fully received despite having paid for these services. A scheduled meeting with Ms. Aranda was also missed, and I had to contact the office myself in order to be connected with her.
When a pre-trial agreement was presented, I requested clear guidance on whether the proposed settlement was in my best interest. Instead, I was met with a dismissive tone. It felt as though my attempt to understand the legal implications--something any client would reasonably expect--was viewed as an inconvenience rather than a necessary part of the attorney-client relationship.
I was instructed by Ms. Aranda to appear in court to accept the settlement, yet I received no follow-up communication from the firm indicating who I would be meeting with or what I should expect. On the day of the hearing, Jocelyn Dopson-Rodriguez appeared on Ms. Aranda's behalf. Although Ms. Dopson-Rodriguez was professional and kind, she was not informed that I would be present and did not appear to have full familiarity with the details of my case.
After the court's offer was accepted, I was later informed that I was not an appropriate candidate for the 29-week program included in the settlement, as proposed by the State Attorney. Instead, a 12-week program would have been more suitable and aligned with my circumstances. The probation department explicitly stated that this discrepancy should have been identified by the presenting attorney. Had this been properly reviewed and addressed, it could have been brought to the State Attorney's attention prior to acceptance.
Because this was not done, the prevention program representative had to contact the State Attorney's Office on my behalf and submit a recommendation letter explaining why I was not a candidate for the ordered program. Additionally, the probation office provided paperwork as an option for me to file a motion to modify the conditions of my probation due to the case oversight. This entire issue could have been avoided had my case been handled with the diligence and care that any client reasonably expects--and certainly the level of service I paid for.

I hired Mr. Joshua Monteiro Esq., for Criminal Law Group,
To represent me, and at times, fight for me, my freedom and my Life; on behalf of a divorce that had gotten out of hand and turned into Criminal Court side (his specialty, not divorce).
-{ My prior attorney from another firm was completely useless, in fact I've been told I probably have a pretty good case against him...}
= NO such tricks are found in THE SAMMIS LAW GROUP, not anywhere. Not in the contract, in fact, it's one of the shortest I've seen, you know why? Because they're HONEST. The most honest Criminal Law Group I have ever met and dealt with for any reason. Reminds me of doing business on a handshake.
- The way their website had REAL stories laid out of previous cases & the issues the clients faced, against what appeared as unbeatable odds; & still they found a way to bring the REAL Truth to light, & receive a much lighter sentence, if not dismissed completely. Trust me all of the stories are True and Real!
- So Mr. Joshua Monteiro Esq. had quite the mess to clean up from the start, & not with a whole lot of time.
- He communicated with me Quickly And Concisely from the start, in any and every form necessary & possible, at Any given time. All while calming my terrified mind by conducting himself in a professional manner always, but also on a human and relatable level. The term 'gentleman' comes to mind, and I can count the number of gentlemen I've met my entire life on 1 hand...
- Mr. Monteiro has a true passion for what he does, & has found his True calling in life.
- He answered ALL of my questions, simply put, always putting my mind at ease.
- He told me ALL POSSIBILITIES, all possible REALITIES, & RESULTS that could take place on court day. He did a beautiful job of telling me always the absolute truth, the absolute worst possible outcome, & the absolute best, & everything in between.
- That is what a Great Attorney is supposed to do, even if it's the things you don't want to hear; & that is exactly what Mr. Joshua Monteiro does. The best attorney I have ever met or seen in my life.
- In court, to watch him work, was pure art, as he then painted a great scene for the Judge to see and understand. He thought very quickly on his feet; we communicated well, and he leveled the playing field. Even with tough odds against me, we definitely came out on top. Through his hard work, his decades of knowledge, personal experience, and perfect judgment and decision-making skills on the fly, (always explaining every little note/ objection/ nuance to me, so I understood why and what exactly was going on during the hearing, as one had to think fast in court.)
He knew all the tools to use, he knew all the evidence that was there. What was valid, what was hearsay; found the holes in their defense and attacked.
He led me to my Vindication, to a WIN, freed me & the Truth! CASE DROPPED! I actually had someone to defend me who cared, knowledgeable, & did an Excellent Job of it.
He helped me get the charges THROWN OUT! That was a major Win, not just for me, also my career, so I can hopefully return to my family & life.
- BUT THEN... The State still wanted to come after me for what happened during the temporary injunction, (which was dropped), & once again, it seemed that I may be up against even worse odds that I had ever faced in my life: staring at a possible Decade in jail. The laws are not the same on both sides of the aisle.
- After much deliberating, back and forth with the State, getting offers, not loving them; going back and fighting again, and again; through a diversity of tactics; just proves the Diversity Of His Genius.
- Mr. Joshua Monteiro Esq. who was able to shed light upon all of it and gave me the best outcome possible! We evaded multiple trials by striking a great plea deal!
= So a huge thank you to Mr. Joshua Monteiro, Esq,! And everybody at the Simmons Law Group. I could continue but review has little room. Hire him!
