Negotiating DBA insurance claims under Workman's Compensation and maintaining the Department of Labor standards requires someone who clearly understands not only those standards but someone who knows how to negotiate a reasonable settlement with the insurance company. Backing down or away from the insurance company is NOT something you will find if you hire the Gillis, Mermell & Pacheco team!! During the settlement mitigation meeting the Insurance company offered me an embarrassing settlement. It was so far off the mark I was ready to walk. Of course this is how they play the game. However, Dave Pacheco, my attorney, was going to have none of the game playing and went right to the heart of the issue and by the time he wore the other meeting players down, we had a reasonably fair settlement that included the attorney fees that was commensurate with my lost annual salary before being injured. To be honest, at first, I was somewhat skeptical about who I had hired because it was tough to get phone calls and e-mails responded to. I learned that the closer you got to that mitigation meeting the more they become involved because they then have something to bite into.
