So I met Robert through a friend who also got his charge dropped because of Mr. Harris. It has been one year of fighting the state and coming up with unorthodox solutions for a case by exhausting every remedy available to me by the Constitution and filing every motion you could possibly file. The state would not budge. I was facing four mandatory years, and I could not get below that due to my violent past and a nine-year prison sentence that was about 14 years ago. There was no solution, but I promise I've dealt with countless lawyers, and a lot of them will tell you something isn't possible because they're lazy. I myself worked in the law library in D.O.C., so I know this man was working even when at times I had a bad attitude because I was upset about my circumstances and thought maybe he was working for the state too. In the end, everything got turned down, and we had no choice but to plea out to the judge, but only after building a beautiful defense and closing statement outlining my accomplishments since my release and what I plan to do with my future, as well as doctors' reports from all my counseling throughout my life and a doctor who testified after examining me. The judge felt for me, which I really appreciate, and today I'm free because of him. Understand this: if I got to the point where I had to just be straightforward and admit I messed up and verbally convince the judge to help me as a last line of defense, it means we tried everything in the world possible before that, and it actually worked. If you're contacting a lawyer, in most cases, it's probably because you messed up. Always fight for your rights, but if you're dead wrong and there's no proving otherwise, and you know that what you were indulging in was a bad character trait, I feel like if you actually feel bad for it and you strive to be a better version of yourself daily, which everyone should want, then anyone judging you with proper discernment of right and wrong should judge you fairly.
