I was referred here by a former client and close friend for the services of Solon Philips in my divorce and custody matter. However, I never got to speak to him. I was crying when I called because having to do this was very emotional for me and I trusted that I would be in good hands with Mr. Philips. I called and identified myself as a prospective client for family law, to which his receptionist replied, verbatim, "...Ok? And?" which caught me off guard at its lack of warmth and professionalism. Her whole energy was, "Ma'am, this is a Wendy's" when I was just calling trying to order a Frosty. I stumbled my words; and she quickly began yelling at me for "not speaking clearly" and caught an attitude saying she "couldn't understand me", while still yelling at me in a judgmental tone as I sobbed and told her that I didn't feel safe at home with my husband and I needed help getting away. She verbatim told me to "find another law firm, I don't want to deal with this." I was shocked and embarrassed. My friend who referred me was shocked and embarrassed. I still can't believe that this woman is the face of their business. I called Verizon to re-start service when my husband abandoned the family home and cancelled the internet without warning, and even the Verizon lady consoled me as I cried about the way my husband is treating me. Total strangers have told me that what's happening to me isn't right and that I need to get a lawyer to protect our child and myself. I never in my wildest dreams imagined that my first ever call to a family law office, much less someone vouched for by my friend, would be met with such cold indifference. As a previous personal injury paralegal, I know that most clients interactions take place between paraprofessional staff as opposed to the attorney themselves, and I would urge people to keep this in mind when considering this firm. I can't imagine trying to call my lawyer's firm, or one of my loved ones supporting me a witness trying to call my lawyer's firm, just trying to pass along information, ask a question, or request an update, and have to be spoken to in such a way by own lawyer's office staff when sharing about delicate subjects. It's a Family Law office--I'm literally paying 10's of thousand of dollars for you to take care of my family problems, I don't think it's too much to ask to be treated with patience and empathy about something that's inherently very sad and very traumatic.

Even with Solon as my legal counsel, the university has been incredibly challenging; refusing to do the right thing. Solon stays in touch, replies to emails within 24 hours (every time), and takes my calls when I need to run something by him real-time.
