In August 2024, we retained Shehu's legal services to initiate eviction proceedings. We informed him of a significant tenant disturbance culminating in a physical altercation, providing assurance that the incident was fully documented on video. His counsel, however, was to await rent default for a stronger legal position. Following his recommendation, we commenced eviction proceedings in mid-August, but court scheduling delays, due to tenant-requested continuances, postponed the hearing until November. Throughout this period, Shehu demonstrated a lack of engagement, declining to review the video evidence or discuss case strategy, instead directing us to monitor the ct.gov portal for updates. This lack of proactive communication indicated a significant deficiency in legal representation. Even on the day of the hearing, despite prior assurances that our presence was unnecessary, we attended court, only to observe Shehu's complete disregard for our presence. In conclusion, his primary recommendation was to grant the tenants a 30-day extension and withdraw the motion contingent upon their full compliance with the eviction notice. However, the tenants failed to comply, retaining keys and continuing to occupy the premises past the agreed-upon date. This was communicated to Shehu, who simply advised changing the locks, and subsequently granted the motion withdrawal without prior consultation or confirmation. The entire process felt biased in favor of the tenant, rendering his services unsatisfactory and unsuitable for future eviction proceedings. I will be requesting a second opinion on this case and its handling.
