Client
I've just read Seth Hanson's book, Life After Bankruptcy. What I particularly like about the book is that it fully explains the reasons behind its recommendations. For example, on page 20, Seth writes: "There is also much to be said in favor of using CASH. Why? When you pull cash out of your pocket, or wallet, or purse, it is real. You can see it, feel it, and even smell it. When you lay down that $20 in cash to pay for your groceries or prescriptions, it is real to you." Aside from sticking to a budget, this is an iron-clad rule for me: If I can't pay cash, I don't buy it. A simple rule, yes, but one that always and everywhere needs to be honored to avoid what I call 'the debt spiral.' Beyond this, the real-life stories of clients add weight and substance to Seth's recommendations. The stories bring to life the agony of debt and -- borrowing from the old ABC Wide World of Sports -- the thrill of living debt-free. Read these stories; each one makes several valuable points. To sum up, this is a well-written and always honest book.
