Client Testimonials

Client

I hired Eric B. Funderburk for my custody case, and it is the single worst decision I could have made for myself and my child. His failures in representation have had long-lasting consequences that I am still forced to deal with to this day. Here are the most serious issues I experienced under his representation: * Failure to advise: He did not properly explain the risks or consequences of relocation and custody modification, leaving me without the information I needed to make fully informed decisions. * Failure to prepare: He went into court without fully building the factual record or presenting key evidence that was available and necessary to protect my rights. * Failure to protect my parental rights: He did not safeguard or preserve my rights under joint legal custody, leaving openings in the order that are now being used against me. * Failure to communicate: He repeatedly failed to respond to my concerns in a timely or meaningful way, leaving me without guidance while critical decisions were being made. * Failure to follow through: After trial, he never advised me of options for appeal, post-judgment relief, or any corrective measures when it became clear the order was not being enforced. * Failure to safeguard long-term interests: He knew I was in a high-conflict custody situation but failed to structure the case or order in a way that would prevent foreseeable issues. I have been forced to represent myself pro se since 2023 because of how badly I was left positioned. In 2025, when preparing my answer and counterclaim, I reviewed the transcripts and finally saw in black and white the depth of his mistakes. Only then did I realize how badly I had been failed by my own attorney. When I confronted him about these issues, his only response was that "too much time has passed" and that I should take it up with the Bar Association. No accountability, no acknowledgment, just dismissal. The truth is this: time does not erase incompetence. Clients trust their attorney to fight for them and protect their interests. Eric B. Funderburk did not do that for me. His neglect left me to clean up the mess years later, alone, while still fighting for my child. If you are considering this firm, I strongly urge you to look elsewhere. My experience shows that once you leave his office, you are on your own -- and when the damage shows itself later, you will get nothing but excuses.

The lady answering the phone is very rude. She would not even let me get a sentence out before she was interrupting me, telling me how she could not help me. If she would have listened, there was a lot more but she likes the sound of her Own voice so much that she would not stop to hear anything I had to say! My mother used this attorney to get a divorce after the divorce. My stepdad went onto my mother's property and took her life. All I needed to know was how I could get help since my mother did put a warrant out for him and did fall. Stay away order. But she was not interested in helping me. My mother's life is gone, and her attorney would not even take the time to hear me on anything I had to say after he was supposed to represent her!

I wanted to thank the office of Eric. B. Funderburk, Attorney at Law, and more specifically Erin (also an Attorney). I live in a different state but received a notice from the local court about a family law matter, that was at first, a little concerning to me. I was concerned (as anyone might be) because I could not fathom what the court wanted with me, so I called their office, left a message and was called back by Erin. I told her what I received in the mail and gave her a brief run-down of what the issue could be concerning, she listened intently, asked questions and had me send over the documents I received and she said she would call me after talking with a colleague in her office. She did in fact call me back and explained that the issue was (more or less) procedural and that I was simply being notified of an action being taken by the court, but not against me; and this was a huge burden lifted off my mind! Also, though the total time was (I would say) less than a hour, I was not even charged for her work! Though I offered to pay this gesture was appreciated and part of the reason for this long review. Erin, thank you for taking the time to listen and I appreciate your comforting tone and professionalism during our conversation. I think you mentioned that you are a new attorney and based on our brief interaction I have no doubt you will go very far in your profession. You are a credit to your law office.

If there were more than 5 stars to give for outstanding service then Eric and his crew would get them all. I cannot sing their praises enough for the wonderful job they did when I was failed by 2 other attorneys. With very little time to prepare and a great deal to sift through Eric and his crew rolled up their sleeves and got down to business. The outcome of my case was exactly as I had hoped it would be and I believe that Eric, Josh & Penny were the biggest reason for that. If you are ever in need of an attorney in Alabama I will always recommend this firm. They were all amazing with getting me through the most difficult time of my life.

Called an asked the dod they handle cases like the one we have. They told us yes and scheduled us for a $100 consultation. After time minutes of listening to Josh tell us he was familiar or sure how to handle the case, he told us he would call us back in 2 days after he did some research. After 3 days we called him back and asked him what he found out. We were then told that he doesn't handle civil forfeiture cases and he talk to a few other lawyers and referred us to them. He told us that he would give them our information and have them call us. Or if we called tell them that he referred us. Guess what nobody has contacted us or returned our calls. A nd the person he referred us to, we already had called twice. He did what every other lawyer and secretary in town did, except he robbed us for $100. If you don't handle those kinda of cases then why charge someone and pretend that you are matlock, when you don't have experience in that field of law. Talk about kicking you while you are down. Shiesty Lawyer trick to say the least. If I could give him a lesser rating I would.
