8/28/24 without discussing, no notification, took on a complex case with a trial date mid September, knowing he'd would be retiring the beginning of September and have to turn the case over and pushed back so a new attorney would be able to get up to speed. While retirement is amazing, I don't find it right to take cases going to trial knowing you'll be having to get off that case right before trial. Explains the lack of rushing to review what was necessary. I do wish attorney Sweet the best of retirement. Just better organization would have been appreciated I'm sure not just by whom I'm speaking for but anyone else who will have their cases/trials pushed back now. 8/7/24 Finally spoke to Attorney Jim Sweet test. I called and he answered. No reason as to why my several emails and call was not returned. No actual details on my brothers case. Still hasn't went as promised to go view a video that can be viewed at any time at the sheriffs office. Wasn't aware of Docket call coming up this coming Monday. Did say he'll be by to see my brother Friday and review what he's got, there are some problems. That's all. Guess we'll see how Fridays visit goes, if Attorney Sweet has actually went to see the video at the sheriffs office. What his action plan is. Updates throughout to come. 8/5/24 sent three more emails, left a voicemail my brother has sicker call on 8/12/24 and no response back. A letter was just received for motion filed for evidence. Not sure why unless it is more than what should have been reviewed. My brother is waiting to understand all the motions he's gotten and why he got one granting case consolidation and one saying they aren't. As of now the replies have been none. 7/29/25 sent another message. 4th one plus a online cash. Over two weeks and no follow up as promised within a week. 7/25/24 I will start with saying Attorney J Sweet is on my brothers case. He has been the only of all the attorneys to actually go speak directly with him in the jail. Which is good & why I'm starting off with atleast the 3 stars. What is not so good is he went with reports and most of what we already knew. Never went to review what needs reviewed at the DA's office to advise. Said he would then would be back to see my brother again the following week. He didn't go & didn't not keep his word and go back the following week to review with my brother. So I emailed so far 3 times now without any response. I called the office once and spoke with the receptionist who while she does seem very nice apparently per my brothers prior attorney gave me incorrect information which I tried to email and confirm with Attorney sweet and still got no reply. I'll follow up with updates though the process, dates and a final when all is done. To give an accurate account of everything from a decent start, to a nervous mid and the finish line.
