Ability Hand to Shoulder Rehabilitation

I have arthritis and have had a few surgeries over the last 2 years. My surgeon from Duke Orthopedics wanted me to see a certified hand therapist, which led me to Ability. I travel one hour to get there and it is well worth every mile. Not only do they treat you like they've known you their whole lives, they do an awesome job. The professionalism is amazing. I have had great success in getting movement and strength back because of their commitment to getting me there. I can't thank Laura, and the others I've worked with, enough for all they've done for me.

I cannot express how high the level and quality of care and professionalism the occupational therapists and staff at Ability Hand to Shoulder Rehabilitation have. Beyond their professional capacity, everyone in the office has the most cheerful and empathetic disposition and strives to make all of their patients comfortable! I had been recommended to Laura Miear by an in-home physical therapist following extensive damage to my arm from a head-on vehicle collision. I had a broken humerus and radial nerve palsy in my dominant arm, and was told by my orthopedic surgeons and in-patient OTs that if I was lucky enough to get back full function and mobility in my hand it would potentially take over a year, and it would still be a big IF. After working with the OTs at Ability, I regained full function and mobility back in just 7 months! While I worked mainly with Mackenzie, the experience and knowledge of everyone at Ability Hand combined with their willingness to try all kinds of exercises and therapies sped my recovery process along to where I can now return to work as well as enjoy my hobbies that I hadn't been able to do since before my wreck. The staff at Ability Hand to Shoulder were so kind and caring as I relied on their extensive expertise and experience when receiving OT following a complicated wrist fracture. The fact that Laura is a certified hand specialist impressed me enough to drive an hour to receive therapy when several local therapists were available. Laura and Kelly were absolutely fantastic to work with! I switched to them after I hit a wall with my previous OT for rehabilitating a broken elbow and frozen shoulder. They helped me work through several issues that were impeding my ability to recover including nerve problems, tendonitis, and pain at the site of the surgery. They give clear, easy to follow, and helpful instructions and listen to any difficulties you might run into, finding alternative ways to accomplish your goals whenever necessary. After a few months, I regained almost all mobility and made significant progress in re-strengthening my arm and shoulder. Cannot recommend any more highly!

My issue was arthritis in my fingers. I feel that Laura educated me on how to keep the disfigurement from advancing. My fingers look better today than when I first visited Ability.
