Attorney Nelson Brinckerhoff

Attorney Brinckerhoff handled my case superbly. I filed an eviction/nonpayment case against a tenant on my property who overstayed the lease expiration date without proper authorization. Mr. Brinckerhoff was fully engaged in all aspects of this case, from initial advising of approach and tactics to the initial court filing. At the court hearing, he expertly maneuvered my case through the process, and in the end I received the judgement that I desired. Diligent; hard-working; tenacious; knowledgeable... it was a pleasure working with Mr. Brinckerhoff, who made a generally stressful situation that much smoother and relatively worry-free. He comes VERY highly recommended.

I am a landlord of several properties and hired Nelson for a tenant eviction. It was not a smooth interaction. I would not recommend using him because his legal advice is not up to date and current. I noticed other reviewers said that his main concern was being paid upfront and on the spot, I can confirm this. Basically, he does not accept checks but only Zelle and I assume cash. He was clear he needed to be paid in full before he would start work for me. I do acknowledge that once he received his money he did serve the tenant right away. However, after this initial action it's like he forgot who I was. When nothing further happened for weeks, I called him and he did not remember the case and I had to remind him. It finally took 6 weeks to get a court date on this time sensitive matter. The tenant has then been ordered to leave the property on a certain date and it was confirmed by Nelson that this date is non-negotiable. Surprisingly, the tenant managed to get an extension without Nelson knowing about it. He later admitted that there is a new law out that allows the tenant to get a stay and that he was not aware of this new law. So I took matters into my own hands. Several interventions from my side with the tenant I finally got the squatter out. However, not without paying additional costs for a moving company. I was promised by Nelson that we could negotiate for a partial reimbursement for the poor representation after the case is settled. When I called him he did not want to honor his word by talking about a financial contribution for my additional cost. I had to laugh when he told me he did a great job in this case. Word to the wise, do not use his services for anything you are not treated with importance and in my case he is not up on the new laws. I will never use him again for any other legal services and suggest you don't either.

My husband and I hired attorney Brinckerhoff to help us with landlord issues. Our landlord sent us a non legit 5 day demand letter and were making our lives so stressful. We hired Nelson to come to court with us and help handle everything and we are so happy we hired him! He was wonderful and straight to the point and I left court so happy with the results. He knows his stuff and had no issue telling their attorney that they were in the wrong. We will definitely hire him again if we have any other issues!

Mr. Brinckerhoff is a professional, knowledgeable and wonderful attorney! He will go above and beyond to fight for you! I was being evicted and got no good reason. He fought for my family against a wonderful attorney and won our dismissal. The other side aka landlords side was trying to get around things and not submit pertinent information to the court when filling the eviction paper work. The day I consulted with Mr. Brinckerhoff and at his first glance of my paperwork he noticed that this was done incorrectly! He knows the laws and statutes in Rhode Island through and through and he will fight to uphold said laws, especially if people are trying to go around them. His detainer fee was reasonable and fair!
