Mr. Kaplow gave us such bad advice that another attorney, who reviewed our case, encouraged us to report him to an ethics committee. He encouraged us not to attend the only hearing that actually mattered. Embarrassingly, he confused our case with another in front of a judge. He was terrible at communicating (consistent feedback from other reviews). Multiple phone calls/ emails would go unanswered. He had the gall to try to charge for a conversation we hadn't even had yet and we had been, without success, reaching out to him to have. He consistently over charged- would bill 45 minutes for a 5 minute conversation because he had to "review our case" every time we spoke. Charged 3 hours to write a 3 bullet point email (we had given him the bullet points). At the end, after he was so confident our case would have a good outcome and it did not; I asked him to name a case similar to ours that was successful, he couldn't name a single case. We wouldn't have wasted thousands of dollars and gone through a months-long traumatic process, if we had known that at the beginning. Awful that he took advantage of our family (and apparently others, from other reviews) during a difficult time.
