I am beyond disappointed with Chris Shumate of Albrektson and Shumate. I trusted him with my probate case, and for three entire months he did absolutely nothing. Not a single filing, no progress, and no real communication. What makes this even worse is that I paid an extra $36 to expedite my filing, and he kept the money even though nothing was ever filed. That isn't just unprofessional--it feels dishonest. I paid for a service that was never delivered, and they pocketed the extra fee without any explanation or refund. Dealing with probate is already stressful enough, and I expected an attorney to help ease the burden. Instead, I was left frustrated, out of money, and with no results to show for it. I would never recommend Chris Shumate or Albrektson and Shumate to anyone who values their time, money, or peace of mind.

Chris Shumate prepared my parents Trust and Will documents for them about 5 years ago after I pestered them incessantly to take care of their affairs. Little did I know that 5 years later my father would pass and leave a small mess because he didn't follow instructions fully. We ended up with a brokerage account outside of the estate without beneficiaries and my mother was unable access the account. Chris offered something called a Heggstad Petition instead of a full probate process. Because my parents had worked with Chris their Trust, Will and Estate were able to use this much more abbreviated process. It's shorter, ~3 months instead of potentially 18 months. It's cheaper and you don't surrender probate fees to the court which can be significant. We are forever grateful for the counsel provided by Mr. Shumate in navigating a difficult time that could have been significantly worse had it not been his work which stood up in court when tested.
