It's never fun to find oneself in need of repairs on your vehicle these days. It's even worse when the timing involves a family emergency.
My Ford F-150 suddenly developed a transmission problem just as I found myself needing to fly out of AK. Worse, I don't have a reliable mechanic at hand and Fairbanks is over150 miles away. I was praying hard.
Reading reviews led me to Simard Automotive. The LORD guided me to their airport location. I had no idea about how close they were or their shuttle service when I called to see about an appointment. As I explained my situation, I found an attentive ear and a plan was formulated to drop off my truck.
Everyone I engaged with during my repairs was kind, professional and aware of my difficult situation. My truck was fully diagnosed. The repairs were completed on time and I am a very happy customer! In the past I've had good experiences with Simards.
Recently, however, I brought my car in for an alignment, and they told me my chassis was in terrible condition and that it wasn't possible to align the vehicle until I replaced front and rear struts, sway bars and bushings, rack and pinion, etc. they never provided pictures or any proof that this was actually the case.
The front struts were replaced recently by Metropolitan Garage, and were under warranty. I took my car back to them, and they took painstaking efforts (including bringing me into the shop to see for myself) to show me that my front struts were operating as they should with no cracks or leaks, as were the rear struts.
There was a cracked CV boot which required replacement of the front axle (a pricey repair I wasn't happy about), but none of the issues Simards claimed to be the case were true.
Lastly, the actual issue I was experiencing was because of mud packed in the wheels of my car. After a wheel balance, my car was driving fine as before.
I'm tired of being lead astray and of wondering who to trust when it comes to mechanic work in this town.
